Thesis Title: The Nationalism of Joachim Meyer: An Analysis of German Pride in his Fighting Manual of 1570

Brian Maxson

About

My research interests revolve around fighting.  More specifically I look for what motivates people toward the use of violence, what controls its employment, how they train for it, and the actual techniques involved.  I believe that cultural factors color every aspect listed above.  These cultural factors are ultimately what I wish to understand.

I have been involved in the practice of martial arts study for the last ten years and have spent twelve years in the military to date.  Despite all those years of experience I feel that I have only begun to go beyond a mere superficial understanding of those aspects of the use of violence mentioned earlier.
